NEWADA duo guest at DISC 2013

The Danube Information Services Conference (DISC) 2013 was held on 3-4 December this time back in Belgrade, Serbia. Around 80 participants answered the invitation of the Directorate for Inland Waterways (Plovput).

The last time DISC was held in Belgrade was in 2006. Having it back to Belgrade was particularly important for said Zoran Lukic, Chairman of the GIS Forum, the umbrella organization under which DISC is hosted. “I’m very happy that we have DISC back in Belgrade” said Lukic in his opening words. This year’s special focus was management and operations. A full two-page conference agenda included among others the presentations of RIS-related projects, the latest news from NEWADA duo project objectives and outputs, the latest activities of the Danube and Sava Commissions and finally important partners from the industry sector presented their latest innovations. Among those, the Serbia customs services - who are RIS users in Serbia – provided insight into their experience with the usage of RIS in Serbia.

NEWADA duo was represented by a team of 7. On the first day, Barbara Kéri (via donau) NEWADA duo Project Manager gave an overview on the Austrian national status and activity report. On the second day, the NEWADA duo team of Work Package leaders (Hélène Gilkarov, Claudiu Dutu, Štefan Polhorský, Gergely Mező und Ivan Mitrović presented the latest development of NEWADA duo in an interactive group presentation.

This year the event was supported by commercial sponsors who are the companies that are developing the solutions for applications on inland waterways and by NEWADA duo.

DISC Conference
DISC– Danube Information Services Conference – has been organized by the GIS Forum Danube ( on an annual basis since 2001. The main goal of the DISC conference is to provide an overview of the national developments in the field of Inland ENC’s, data exchange, surveying, etc. and to invite companies to showcase their tools and software solutions.
