NEWADA duo crosses finish line

On 11 November, 100 participants, among which project partners, stakeholders, EU representatives, representatives of the Hungarian Ministry of National Development and other experts directly or less directly involved in the project answered the invitation of the NEWADA duo project team and met for the project final event in Budapest. This event was an opportunity to share the results and outputs of this important flagship project as well as to reaffirm the NEWADA duo partners’ strong commitment to the Danube waterway and Danube navigation.
Over 100 experts, NEWADA duo project partners and stakeholders met for the NEWADA duo Final Event in Budapest answering an invitation from via donau (NEWADA duo Lead partner) und the local organizers, RSOE.
The NEWADA duo final event was moderated by Hélène Masliah-Gilkarov, responsible for International Communication at viadonau and NEWADA duo Dissemination Officer.
The opening speech was given by Markus Simoner, representing Hans-Peter Hasenbichler, viadonau Managing Director. Mr Simoner highlighted the importance of this project and underlined the importance of a continuation and expansion of the activities started with NEWADA duo for the future. Béla Hegyesi (Hungarian NC Hungarian NCP P) presented the future Danube framework programme. Next to presentations by Barbara Kéri, who summarized the project outputs, the main achievements of the project were highlighted in four presentation blocks; A first block focusing on Fairway Information for users with the official launch of the Danube Fairway Information Services (FIS) Portal by Geregely Mezö (RSOE), Marking plans by Claudiu Dutu (AFDJ) and Atlas of Berths by Stefan Polhorsky (SVP). The presentation of Waterway infrastructure Management by Thomas Hartl (viadonau) followed and the last presentation was given by Ivan Mitrovic (Plovput) who presented the Danube Report. In his keynote speech which officially launched the FIS Portal, Zsolt László Becsey, Deputy State Secretary responsible for Transport in the Hungarian Ministry of National Development emphasized the importance of NEWADA duo for the Danube Region and for the competitively of Danube navigation. An interactive panel discussion provided the panelists an opportunity to express their views and discuss important strategic questions related to the project from the point of view of partners, observers, stakeholders and the SEE Programme:

  • Gerhard van Winssen (Board Member & Head of the International Department, Koninklijke Schuttevaer)

For Barbara Kéri, NEWADA duo project manager, with NEWADA duo “the Danube waterway administrations have started one of the most comprehensive and challenging projects so far that has covered the widest range of inland navigation activities on the Danube River in a transnational context; The challenge was taken because Danube navigation is what we all care about!.”
